My Story
Picture 10_edited.jpg

William Ogden Haynes, Ph.D. was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan and grew up a military brat. After earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Northern Michigan University in Speech-Language Pathology, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He completed his doctoral degree in communication disorders at Bowling Green State University. Dr. Haynes taught at Auburn University (AL) in the department of communication disorders for 33 years serving two terms as department chairperson. His areas of expertise are child/adolescent language development and disorders, diagnosis of communication disorders and research methods. He has published six major textbooks and over fifty research articles on communication disorders in national and international journals. Dr. Haynes holds the rank of Professor Emeritus at Auburn University.

William Ogden Haynes is also an author of poetry and short fiction and has published over 250 poems and short stories in literary journals. He has published ten collections of poetry and short stories. Since most of the poems and short stories in these books had appeared earlier in literary journals, the books serve to consolidate the work of William Ogden Haynes in ten easily accessible volumes. His poetry has been anthologized multiple times and he is frequently invited to read his work at various arts and poetry gatherings in the Southeast. He is currently working on new projects in both poetry and fiction.
